CRANBERRY FLORALS
Cranberry Garden and Cranberry Bouquet were floral commission pieces for a new client in Naples. We met I believe at the downtown Naples Art Show on fifth Avenue. After that they called me to their home to see the colors and space; and we discussed what would be most appropriate with their décor and aesthetic tastes.
The commission was placed in April 2022 and then fulfilled in November 2022. it doesn’t always take that long to fulfill a commission but I was traveling quite a lot for the summer show season. They were also away from Florida for their summer so there was not as much of a sense of urgency as with some other commissions.
It really is an honor to be invited to be a part of their home in such a prominent way. Yes, there is some anxiety, wanting to fulfill the commission to the best of my abilities and exceed the client’s expectations. However, I do my best to treat the commissions as if I’m painting just for myself so any anxiety does not come across on the canvas. I’ve gotten pretty pretty adept at that over the years.
The sizes were determined by the areas in which the paintings were intended. We decided on 40” x 60” for the larger and 30” x 40” for the smaller. They loved the florals at my art booth so they wanted me to do my own take on florals using their colors in their home.
While I do not typically install paintings; this was not a complicated installation so I was happy to do it myself since they live near my home.
I think the days of elaborate framing for most people are out of date. Most people prefer a slicker, more contemporary look, either with a simple floater frame or with no frame at all. I finish my edges in such a way that they can be either floater framed or left just as is and fit right in with today’s trends in interior design.
