TREETOP MOSAIC GAZES THROUGH ON SUNNY DAY
This commission began from a conversation around a previous painting of mine called Dancing Under My Favorite Tree. I was the guest of honor at an event where many of my paintings were on display. An embellished reproduction of Dancing was one of the works on display that evening and a conversation grew around the painting with my commissioner.
She loved the abstract way the colors worked together and the mosaic-like feeling. She and her husband needed a large piece, a statement piece, near the entryway of their home. We decided that a microcosm of dancing under my favorite tree would be perfect.
I did several digital sketches for them before we settled on this composition. It's filled with reflective media in its many layers, giving depth and intrigue that can't be seen in the photo.
In person, the journey it takes you on is like gazing up into the sky on a bright sunny day through the trees. To me, it is a very happy and optimistic painting.
