ROAD TRIPPIN' TO SOUTHAMPTON AND A CLASSIC TEMPTATION

Golden Grove by Christine Adele Arts

Golden Grove by Christine Adele Arts

The Southampton Art & Artisan Fair is June 19-20 in New York and wow, there are a lot of preparations that must be done!  I have to finish several of the paintings I’ve been working on for the shows.

I also need to figure out the most optimal way to arrange everything into my new cargo van and load it up.  Packing up everyday items for a month away is also on the list. I haven’t counted the pieces of artwork that will fit into the new fan because I’ve been too busy painting them. Between the new art and the ones I’ve completed earlier, I would guess at least 25-30.

What’s still drying in the studio? I can’t get enough of painting florals and botanical abstracts lately.  Lots of layers and texture.  Various materials suspended in resin in deep layers that invite the viewer to explore. I recently finished a large work titled Golden Grove and it measures 36” x 72” on canvas.  In person, once can see the physical depth and variety of materials involved.  Here is a detail image, highlighting some of that depth and the use of silver leaf in one of the trees:

Detail of Golden Grove

Golden Grove is inspired from the beautiful glow of the yellow leaves of autumn.

I’m looking forward to displaying it in Colorado as they remind me of the beautiful Aspen trees.

Below is a detail image from another new piece titled Temptation and is also very large at 36” x 72”. It’s one of my new floral abstracts that I’ve been enjoying creating so much.

The size and scale of the piece, the mixture of materials, and play of both matt and glossy sheens has great impact in person. I’m excited to display it in my booth! Here is an image of the entire painting:

Temptation

The title for Temptation actually comes from the scene in the classic movie “The Wizard of Oz” when Dorothy and her companions fall asleep in the poppy field, haha. What can I say, I am a child of the 70’s!

While I’m coming up with a new concept I usually listen to a playlist I made on Spotify which is like a giant mix tape of a variety of genres.  Once I have the concept down, I move on to audio books.  I love books and have been an avid reader since I was a child, never going anywhere without a book.  In my adult years, though, there is not much time to just sit and read so I listen while I paint instead.  Podcasts are cool, too.  One of my favorites is Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend.
